My First Quilt

Last night I finished my first quilt. I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out, despite the fact that it's clear I still have a lot to learn about quilting.

I got the kit from Joann.com - I don't think it's available anymore - which came with the fabric and directions. Then I cut the pieces using my new rotary cutter and mat, sewed up the pieces using the sewing machine Grandma Wells gave me for my bridal shower, and put the whole thing together! It was quite a learning experience. I think I'll just stick with small quilts for a while, and maybe ones without triangles too.

Happy Birthday Oscar!

Today is Oscar's 3rd Birthday! He seems to know, because he's been extra cuddly today, and he meowed 3 times when I left this morning... =) Happy Birthday, Oscar!

Window Buddy

Oscar made a friend through the window today. He was very excited! Here are some pictures.

He kept pawing at the window, and his tail was wagging like crazy!

A Stony Brook Adventure

This weekend I introduced Jason to The Stony Brook School when we visited for my 10 year reunion. It turned out to be a very relaxing weekend, as we took several naps and did some reading. But we did have some adventures too...

Sailing
The SBS Sail Team now has ~50 students participating each semester. They have 4 keeled boats (they had 1 when I was a student) and still have over a dozen 420s. So when we went sailing Friday afternoon, there were four captains with us to take out the four boats.
We had the privilege of sailing with some friends I hadn't seen in probably 11 years: Paul and Lisa Gage. Their twin daughters that Christine and I used to babysit are now sophomores at SBS!

After dinner (yes, we did make it back to school in time for dinner), we stopped by a reception at the Grosvenor House, where we met up with some new friends from the class of 87 who convinced us to head down to the field for the Girls Varsity Soccer match. We spent a lot more time with people from other classes than from my own.

Reunion Dinner

Saturday evening was our Reunion Dinner in Port Jeff. We saw many classmates, some of whom had dropped off the planet for a few years, so it was a quite enjoyable evening.

Sunday
Sunday was, of course, Chapel in Carson. I was pleased to remember all the notes to The Lord Bless You and Keep You, probably because I heard it so much last year. =) We had Dinner at the Sides' table and time for a nap before our flight home. Jason took some great pictures in the air:

We got home late Sunday night and found a cute little tiger kitty who had missed us tremendously. We missed him too!

Rascally Tiger

Oscar seems to know when something's up. He hasn't messed with toilet paper in quite some time, but tonight...

Silly Oscar!

Heart for England

Tonight I had dinner with Tammy Aho. She and her husband Tim are missionaries / church planters in England. We spent a fair amount of time talking about what their plans are when they head home from furlough next week. There are so many opportunities to use Christian Love to help people. I'm very excited to see how God will work "across the pond." It's a rather difficult mission field, with only ~4% believers/church attenders. I get spoiled living in a "Christian" nation, but especially living in a "Christian" state, where most of my coworkers are church-goers, or at least grew up in the church. I loved my time in London - I want to see people there come to know Christ like I do. I hope someday I'll get to participate myself in the action over there. =)

Fuzzy Tiger

Here's a picture of Oscar sleeping on the couch. Just before I took this picture, his head was down lower and it was really cute, but he always moves as soon as we get the camera... =)

Here's a picture we took of Oscar today. He likes to take a nap on my lap when I rest in the recliner after lunch on Sundays. Today I decided to give him a mohawk. You can almost see it in the picture.
